What GRIT Stands For

GRIT stands for Games for Resilience and Interactive Transformation, a trauma-informed, culturally-rooted, and play-based therapeutic program designed to support individuals of all ages—especially children and youth—in processing trauma and rebuilding their sense of self and community. Whether in the aftermath of war, during displacement, or in preparation for future climate-related challenges, GRIT is adaptable across contexts and designed to meet people where they are.

While the term “grit” has been widely used in educational settings to describe perseverance or character, our GRIT is not a measure of individual willpower or success. It is a humanitarian mission rooted in healing, not performance.

GRIT challenges systems that overlook mental health, cultural identity, and the emotional impact of crisis. We believe that resilience is not something people must prove, but something they deserve to build together, with care, safety, and support.

GRIT Commitment Statement: Global Collaboration for Trauma-Informed Healing

GRIT – Games for Resilience and Interactive Transformation – is a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and play-based therapeutic program rooted in the power of storytelling and live-action role-play (LARP). Our mission is to support individuals affected by crisis and displacement, and at-risk communities by helping them process trauma, regain a sense of safety and identity, and build long-term emotional resilience.

Our team currently represents 17 countries across five continents, bringing together a deeply diverse mix of lived experiences and professional expertise in trauma recovery, education, cultural consulting, storytelling, and mental health. This diversity strengthens every part of our program, from design to delivery, ensuring that GRIT is inclusive, globally relevant, and representative of the communities it serves.

GRIT is a humanitarian initiative grounded in the belief that all individuals—especially children—have the right to safety, well-being, and the opportunity to heal from the invisible wounds of trauma. We align our work with internationally recognized frameworks and the core values of leading institutions such as UNICEF, WHO, Save the Children, and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms every child’s right to education, protection, and mental health support.

GRIT Transparency Statement

At GRIT, transparency, integrity, and accountability are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating safe, inclusive, and transformative spaces for individuals and communities affected by trauma, crisis, or displacement without political affiliation or hidden agendas.

We work with an intentional and thorough vetting process to ensure that every partnership and contribution aligns with our mission. Our supporters can be confident that their contributions are used solely to advance healing, resilience, and opportunity for those who need it most.

GRIT accepts funding from individuals and institutions who share our values and our focus on mental health, cultural dignity, and human rights.

Contributions come with no strings attached, and we honor both public and anonymous support.

This is our promise: To remain focused on healing, not headlines. Always.

GRIT is more than a program. It is a global collaboration, built with care and vision, to help individuals of all ages—especially children and youth—reclaim their future through imagination, resilience, and culturally grounded healing. Whether responding to crises, navigating displacement, or preparing for future disruptions, GRIT empowers communities to heal and rebuild together.
